I find that using other materials with the clay gives more meaning to the finished work. It does so because of clay's long history, which maps the history of man. On a technical level, by bringing other materials into play, I can overcome the limits of clay such as having no tensile strength. The result is an expansion of the limits, formally and physically, of the sculpture. |
