This genre seemed a logical connection between the flat works on paper and the sculpture in the round. I was first moved to low relief when I saw some of the architectural bas relief on the ruins of the Mayan peoples in the Yucatan peninsula. There is an elemental tension created when something massive is floating on a wall. |
